New Position Paper from the Dutch Global Health Alliance: Global Health in Development Cooperation Policy 2026

In a world where geopolitical tensions are rising, pandemic threats persist, and health systems are under pressure, investing in global health is not a luxury but a strategic necessity. Global health directly touches on the central themes of the coalition agreement: national security, economic resilience, the international legal order, and a strong Europe. For an open trading nation like the Netherlands, stable and healthy societies elsewhere in the world are essential to our own security and prosperity. The new commitment to development cooperation offers a crucial opportunity to firmly anchor global health as an integral part of Dutch foreign policy.

In our latest position paper, we outline how the Netherlands can seize this opportunity. We underscore the importance of strong health systems, pandemic preparedness, and equitable access to care, and make concrete recommendations to better align policy, financing, and cooperation.
