The Path of the Refugee

On Tuesday May 3rd, the event ‘The Path of the Refugee’ took place at Stichting Vluchtelingenwerk Maastricht. We’re grateful and proud that so many people were interested in our project, as there were 50 people in total present at this event. Due to the big attendance, we were able to donate €86,- to Stichting Vluchteling and we’re extremely proud of that amount.

Attendees at the event got the chance to hear personal stories from refugees, who have fled from Eritrea, Syria, Palestine and Afghanistan to the Netherlands. Some stories were really emotional and shocking, the kind that sens shivers down your spine. On the other hand, there was also a lot of laughter. Not only did we hear all the personal stories, we were also able to enjoy the delicious dishes that the refugees made for us, all specialties from their own country. An amazing treat!

It was extremely nice and impressive that the refugees were brave enough to tell us their personal story. We as IFMSA-NL and IFMSA-Maastricht think it's important that all prejudices and cliches about refugees get eliminated, calling for a better understanding of each other. It was a successful evening, we hope to see you next time!
