Green Health
The Green Health Commission of the working group Public Health in Nijmegen is specialized in sustainability. The commission initiates projects aimed at mainly students. The past year the commission has worked on a poster-campaigns to reduce the impact on the environment of certain daily activities. For example: traveling, the clothing industry, oil use and meat and fish consumption. By means of education about green alternatives, we hope to stimulate people to think about sustainable solutions. We also try to contribute to sustainability on campus. In the past we have made trashcans more sustainable and we have organized a sweater days, during which the heater is turned off on campus. Another project that we are working on is to make the cafetaria’s supply healthier, more sustainable and more diverse. A benefit of our efforts is that we are able to share our ideals with the university, study association and the hospital. Thereby we can broaden the context of our green health efforts and we can contribute to a more sustainable world with sustainable care delivery. Volunteers could help the commission by means of contribution to development of new or existing projects. Sponsors could contribute to financing projects, so that the commission can improve sustainability on a greater scale. For example, we could invest in a local vegetable and herbs garden, which could be used by the cafeteria in their sustainability efforts.
